What We Do

At Solutions, we work to develop a learning culture that a student can recognize as his own. We believe that motivation and relevance are keys to getting students hooked on learning. We take the time to build relationships with students of all ages based on mutual respect and trust. We see them as young people with talents, interests, and multiple relationships in the world beyond school, not just as struggling students. We honor different learning styles and recognize that, often, our clients are labeled as underachievers or students who just don’t care, where, in fact, they want to achieve, but simply need a helping hand. We assess where the student is, then work with the student, parents, and teachers, when appropriate, to determine how to turn each child’s educational experience into one he in which he is invested. We believe that all students have strengths. Our goal is to use creative approaches to help each student recognize her own unique learning styles and develop as a confident, independent learner.

How We Do This

  • We work to remediate disabilities.
  • We offer multiple instructional strategies.
  • We help students recognize their own individual learning styles so that they can learn in a way that is effective for them.
  • We help kids catch up when they fall behind.
  • We help students break down defenses that arise when they lack confidence or fail to perform according to expectations.
  • We encourage students to discover how learning can help them to better understand themselves and how they can flourish in their roles in their families, schools, communities, and the world at large.

Test Prep

Many students, including those who typically do well “in school” have problems taking and/or achieving well in tests that determine things like promotion to the next grade or entry to private secondary schools and college. Solutions offers individual strategy sessions to prepare for the MCAS, SSAT, ISEE, PSAT, SAT, and ACT. If subject specific weaknesses are exposed during these supportive prep sessions, tutoring in the problem areas is also available.

Testing & Consultation

We provide testing by a certified school psychologist and learning specialist in order to help to diagnose strengths, weaknesses, and probable causes for learning difficulties. Often, parents prefer our testing to school testing or in addition to school testing to confirm or deny the school’s results.

Our services include WISC IV or WAIS ,WIAT and Woodcock Johnson III Cognitive and Achievement testing. We can test for phonemic awareness problems in young children as well as possible ADD or language-learning deficits in children ages 5 to 18.

Our prices for testing are affordable – much less than what other private agencies currently charge.

Who We Are

Our tutors’ experience and knowledge of how to work with students with different learning styles and/or special needs is crucial to our success. They are able to coach students to work from their strengths to overcome their weaknesses. Our tutors have an awareness of different learning styles which allows them to help students understand concepts not understood in class.

Many are certified special needs teachers with backgrounds that include working with children diagnosed with dyslexia, ADD, or autism spectrum disorders. Others have had experience in inclusion classrooms. Still others bring their expertise from subject specific businesses and higher education. We match each child to the tutor(s) who best meets their needs.

We also have tutors certified in, or with training in, special methods such as Wilson, Lindamood Bell, Orton-Gillingham, and Fast ForWord. These highly structured and sequential programs, which can improve readiness and development of necessary skills are ideal for students struggling with reading.
